2007 Porsche 911 GT3 RS (997)
The 997 GT3 RS was announced in early 2006 as a homologation version of the GT3 RSR racing car for competition events like Sebring and the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The drivetrain of the RS is based on the 911 GT3, except for the addition of a lightweight flywheel and closer gear ratios for further improved response under acceleration. The RS is built on the body and chassis of the 911 Carrera 4 and Turbo. It is 64mm wider than the standard GT3 at the back and has better cornering characteristics on the road and the track.
The 997 RS is distinguished by its distinctive color schemes. The plastic rear deck lid is topped by a wide carbon-fiber rear wing. The front airdam has been fitted with an aero splitter to improve front down force and provide more cooling air through the radiator.
The RS was also fitted with a roll cage and a fire extinguisher. The rear screen was made out of plastic. Although the car was wider at the back and had a built in roll cage weighing 30KG’s, the GT3 RS was 20KG lighter than a standard GT3 and weighed in at 1,370KG’s. The 3.6L flat six cylinder engine produces 305Kw. Top speed is 311km/h and zero to 100 comes up in 4.1s.
This particular car has done 44,397 kms from new and has a full service history with Porsche SA. The car is without a mark, absolutely perfect after lengthy and expensive refurbishment done recently. The car is finished in Pure Orange with black accents and black wheels. It has an Akrapovic exhaust system fitted which, besides sounding absolutely wonderful also gives the car an extra 8Hp. More importantly, it is 20KG’s lighter than the standard system!
Only a hand full of these cars came to South Africa and this is one of the best examples you will find. An exhilarating driving experience! This is Porsche motoring at its very best!
