1983 Lotus Esprit S3 (FOR SALE)
The Lotus Esprit is a British sports car, built by Lotus from 1976 to 2004. The car has a rear mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout. It was one of Lotus’ most long-lived models. The Esprit was one of the first straight-lined, wedge-shaped designs of the famous Italian automotive designer Giugiaro. The four-cylinder engine received many tweaks and upgrades throughout the years. Power output ranged from 119 kW in the S1 with a 2.0L four-cylinder engine to a whopping 261kW, or 350 hp in the S4 Esprit V8! The Esprit embodied Lotus’ performance through light weight mantra, with the S1 weighing less than 1000kg!
The Lotus Esprit was made famous by appearing in two Bond movies. First was a S1 in the 1977 block buster, The Spy Who Loved Me and then two Turbo Esprits featured in the 1981 film, For Your Eyes Only.
The Series 3 (or S3) and Turbo Esprit debuted in April 1981. The two models shared a common chassis, and bodywork was based on a common set of moulds.
This specific car is a 1983 S3 with an indicated 48 776 kms on the odometer. This is an original car, finished in Monaco white with black decals and a blue leather and cloth interior. The beautiful 15-inch BBS alloy wheels were a factory option on this car. Although the service history was lost a few years ago the car was mechanically refreshed, including a cambelt service, new water pump and radiator hoses, re-cored radiator and the brakes were serviced, with all parts imported from the UK. The rims were also refurbished and fitted with new BF Goodrich tyres.
This is a beautiful example of this iconic Lotus from the eighties!
