1980 Triumph Stag

R 149 000(SOLD)

Are you looking for a classic Triumph Stag for sale?

The Triumph Stag was a British Sports car, Made by Triumph Motor Company between 1970 and 1978. It was a 2+2 sports tourer, styled by Italian designer Giovanni Michelotti.

The cars were designed to compete directly with the Mercedes Benz SL-range. They were 4-seater convertible coupes. The Stag was also aimed for the American market and to meet the American rollover standards the Stag required a B-pillar “roll bar” hoop, connected to the windscreen frame by a T-bar. This improved the structural rigidity of the car. The factory hardtop was a very popular factory option at the time. The Triumph Stag was powered by a 3.0L V-8 engine producing 107kW and had a top speed of 118 mph, about 190 km/h. This engine was probably the reason why the Stag was never a very successful car. It had a cast iron block and aluminium cylinder heads which resulted in notorious oil leaks and overheating issues.

This specific car was first registered in 1980 but would essentially be a 1978 spec car. This car was fitted with a Ford V-6 Essex engine. It is finished in a two-tone silver over grey with a black interior. The car has the optional Minilite rims fitted and does also come with the factory hardtop. The mileage indicated is just under 30 000 miles, but the clock has turned over at least once.

This is a nice example, but the car needs some TLC, with small patches of rust visible under the paint in a few different areas. The car is mechanically sound, licensed and on the road. A very nice and affordable British sports car to enter the classic car market.
