1972 Volkswagen Econo Beetle (FOR SALE)
The Beetle is a two door, rear-engine economy car, designed to take five occupants. It was manufactured by Volkswagen from 1938 until 2003. It is officially known as the Volkswagen Type 1. Informally and affectionately, it is known all over the world as the Bug. With 21 529 464 cars built the Beetle is the longest running and most manufactured car of a single platform ever made! The Beetle was officially replaced by the Golf in 1974, but production of the Beetle went on in countries all over the world for years to come, with the last Beetle rolling of the production floor in Mexico in 2003!
This specific car is a 1972 “Econo” Beetle, also know as a standard or a stripped-down Beetle. This car is completely original and has done only 37802kms! The Econo Beetles were essentially built for the European market and Belgium specifically. They were parts bin cars, so they did not all look the same! The basic idea was to offer an entry level Beetle at a better price. To achieve this the cars were all fitted with a 1200 cc single port motor. There was very little chrome work on the car, even the window rubbers had no chrome mouldings on them. Interior trim was made of a durable vinyl material. The roof lining only covered the roof, leaving the steel pillars exposed. The pull handles on the front doors were lightweight plastic handles. Other distinguishing features were:
- Blade bumpers
- Small taillights
- Sealed beam front fenders
- 1303 wheels but with drums all round
- Steering wheel from a Type 2 bus
There were quite a few special edition Beetles, especially from the early to mid-seventies, the Econo Beetle being one of them. This is a rare opportunity to purchase an unique and special classic Beetle!
