Are you looking for a Volkswagen Karmann Ghia for sale?

The Volkswagen Karmann Ghia was introduced in 1955 as a 2+2 Coupe. A 2+2 Cabriolet followed in 1957. Internally known as the Type 14, both the Coupe and the Cabriolet was produced until 1974, when the model was discontinued. The car combined the chassis and mechanicals of the VW Beetle with styling by Carrozzeria Ghia. The bodies were hand built by German coachbuilders Karmann and from there the name, Karmann Ghia.

This specific car is a 1966 model that has been the subject to a complete rebuild with some tasteful and practical upgrades done to the original car. The car was completed in 2014 and has done about 20 000 kms since then. The upgrades include the following:

  • 2.3L VW Kombi engine, completely rebuilt
  • Go Tech electronic ignition.
  • Electronic fuel ignition with four independent throttle bodies
  • Purpose built exhaust with ceramic coating
  • Final drive ratio modified to suit additional power
  • Heavy duty clutch
  • Front and rear stabilizer bars
  • Disc brakes front and rear with all new brake lines and cylinders
  • New shocks and tie rod ends
  • VW mag wheels with Michelin tyres

The body was stripped down, sand blasted, primed and repainted in stunning Biscay Blue with a completely new beige leather interior. All the chrome work is new as well as all the lights and lenses. The front headlamps are halogen lamps. A new windscreen was fitted. There are new analogue gauges in the interior as well as a powerful Sony radio system. The car was also fitted with central locking.

This Karmann Ghia looks stock standard and yet has been upgraded to a better braking, better handling and much faster car than a standard one! You will go very far to find a better example of this iconic VW sports car!
