1958 Porsche 356 A Speedster “Steve McQueen Tribute” (FOR SALE)
The 356 was the first production car for Porsche. It was a rear-engine, rear wheel drive sports car that was very light and had unmatched handling characteristics. The car was available as a two-door coupe and as an open top. Porsche engineers continued to improve the car in the years of production. This increased the car’s popularity and contributed to its success on the racetrack.
In 1958, legendary Hollywood actor and acclaimed racing driver Steve McQueen purchased a black on black 356 Speedster from Century Motor Sales, a Porsche dealer in Alhambra, California. This was his first brand new car, and it didn’t take long before he decided to enter the car in a race. Although McQueen was an experienced bike racer, this race in Santa Babra was his first auto race. The 48-car-field included other Porsches, Alfa Romeos and Austin-Healeys. Steve McQueen won this race and, as they say, the rest is history! He of course went on to race many Porsches very successfully in his illustrious career, including a Porsche 908 and the mighty 917, famously at le Mans! The 356 stayed with the McQueen family after Steve’s death in 1980 and is today owned by his son, Chad.
This specific car is a replica, and a tribute to the famous no. 71 car McQueen raced with. The car comes with a custom-made waterproof cabin cover, a custom-made indoor cover and a 1/18 scale Auto Art model of the original car. More importantly, this car has a period correct engine from a Porsche 356 A fitted in the rear!
A great opportunity to own a nice replica of an iconic Porsche 356 Speedster.
