2012 Lamborghini Gallardo LP550-2
The Lamborghini Gallardo was a sports car built between 2003 and 2013. It was the first best seller for Lamborghini. 14,022 Lamborghini Gallardos were built throughout the production run. As all Lamborghinis are, the Gallardo was named after a famous breed of fighting bull. All Gallardos are powered by a V10 engine and has been Lamborghini’s top seller and stable-mate to a couple of generations of their V12 flagship models.
In 2009 Lamborghini introduced the Gallardo LP 550-2 Valentino Balboni edition which was named after Lamborghini’s test driver Valentino Balboni. This model was limited to 250 units and what made it special was that, unlike all the other Gallardos in the line-up, the Balboni was offered in rear wheel drive only. This reduced the car’s weight by 30 kg. Engine output was reduced by 10 hp from 560 to 550 HP to make the car more drivable. Other features included an improved E-gear transmission and a redeveloped 45% limited slip differential. Lamborghini claimed the LP 550-2 Valentino Balboni could do 0-100 in 3,9 seconds and go on to a top speed of 320 km/h.
In 2011 Lamborghini decided to add this two-wheel drive option to their regular line up. The car borrowed almost everything from the limited edition car except for the unique cosmetic features which included the rims, colour pallet and badging. Lamborghini called this car the LP 550-2 Coupe and was the lowest priced Gallardo in the line-up. The LP 550-2 Coupe I set apart from the rest by its unique black side skirts and “LP 550-2” badges in front of the rear wheels. The suspension tuning came straight out of the Valentino Balboni edition. A 6-speed manual transmission was standard however the E-gear transmission was available at extra cost.
This specific car is a 2012 LP 550-2 E-gear with 29 300 km on from new and a full service history from Lamborghini SA. The black ceramic coated paint and dark accents in the wheels make for a mean and aggressive package. The brake callipers were speced in yellow to contrast all the dark features and tie everything together. A magnificent car that can never be fully appreciated unless you hear it and see it in the flesh!
