2007 Porsche 911 GT3 RS (997)
The 997 GT3 RS was announced in early 2006 as a homologation version of the GT3 RSR racing car for competition events like Sebring and the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The drivetrain of the RS is based on the 911 GT3, except for the addition of a lightweight flywheel and closer gear ratios for further improved response under acceleration. The RS is built on the body and chassis of the 911 Carrera 4 and Turbo. It is 64mm wider than the standard GT3 at the back and has better cornering characteristics on the road and the track.
The 997 RS is distinguished by its distinctive color scheme – bright orange or green with black accents and wheels, or silver or black with orange accents and wheels. The plastic rear deck lid is topped by a wide carbon-fiber rear wing. The front airdam has been fitted with an aero splitter to improve front down force and provide more cooling air through the radiator.
The RS was also fitted with a roll cage and a fire extinguisher. The rear screen was made out of plastic. Although the car was wider at the back and had a built in roll cage weighing 30 kgs the GT3 RS was 20 kg lighter than a standard GT3 and weighed in at 1370kgs. The 3,6L flat six cylinder engine produces 305 Kw. Top speed is 311km/h and zero to 100 comes up in 4.1s.
This particular car has done 26000 kms from new and has a full service history with Porsche SA. The car is finished in pure orange with black accents and black wheels. It has a full leather interior, not standard on a RS. This car was also fitted with the ceramic brakes which offer phenomenal stopping power. The ceramic brakes are also 27kg lighter than the standard steel brakes and enhances the already great handling characteristics of the car!
Only a hand full of these cars came to South Africa. This is one of the best if not the best example you will find. An exhilarating driving experience! Porsche motoring at its very best!
